Over the past year, the rate of foreclosures in Maryland have started to decline, but many families especially in Prince Georges County continue to suffer.

Im honored to be here today, and I want you to know how much I admire the work you do and the risks you take to protect our communities and our families. No matter how advanced your equipment is, the role you play in our communities is a timeless one.

I know what a challenging time this is for our governments, on the federal, state, and local levels. On each level, were facing budget shortfalls and the prospect of deep debtdebt that threatens our opportunities today, and our children and grandchildrens opportunities tomorrow.

Over the past year, the rate of foreclosures in Maryland have started to decline, but many families especially in Prince Georges County continue to suffer.

Whether retired or active, Federal public servants and their service to the American peoplewhether they are Democrats, Republicans, or Independentsdeserve respect. As someone who represents almost 60,000 Federal employees in Marylands 5th Congressional District and sees the contributions of public servants on a daily basis, they certainly have mine.

Todays analysis proves what Democrats and independent analysts have been saying for weeks: Republicans spending bill will severely damage our economy here in Maryland, preventing it from continuing to grow and create jobs.

I support the repeal of the new 1099 reporting requirements, and have voted for repeal in the past.

Our deep debt is a serious danger to our economic future and our childrens opportunities. The American people want us to bring the debt down, and I doubt that theres a Member here who disagrees.
