Hoyer (MD-05) joined U.S. Senators U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Tim Kaine (D-VA) and U.S. Representatives James Walkinshaw (VA-11) and Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10), and federal employee union leaders and members at a press conference to announce the launch of the Federal Workforce Caucus to protect federal workers and strengthen the merit-based federal civil service for the American people.  Below is a full transcript of his remarks:

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement in response to The Washington Post's large scale staff reductions and restructuring:

"On the front page of every copy of the Washington Post, right below the name of that famed paper, is a simple slogan: 'democracy dies in darkness.' Today, the darkness grows.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Ranking Member of the Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement today after voting to pass the FY 2026 appropriations package to end the partial government shutdown:

“I voted yes on the bill to fund more than 75% of our government through the end of the fiscal year and the Department of Homeland Security for only ten days.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement in observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day:

"Today, I join in observing International Holocaust Remembrance Day. We cannot afford to forget what Allied troops saw when they liberated the Nazi death camps eighty-one years ago. The Nazis' industrial murder of 6 million Jews and millions of other victims revealed the darkest side of humanity. 

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement:

"For the second time this month, federal immigration agents took the life of a resident of Minneapolis. Stephen Miller branded Renee Good and Alex Pretti 'terrorists' and 'assassins.' He lied. They were no such thing. One was a poet and a mother of three, the other an ICU nurse for the VA. They were American citizens. They were human beings. I pray for their families. America grieves with them.
 

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks (both D-MD), and U.S. Representatives Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Glenn Ivey (MD-04), and Johnny Olszewski (MD-02) announced $1,442,360 in federal funding to improve road safety in Harford, Talbot, and Prince George’s Counties and the City of Baltimore.
