I rise today in strong opposition to the Goodlatte amendment which would take a giant step backward in our efforts to restore the health of our nations largest estuary the Chesapeake Bay.

Our country is in deep fiscal trouble, and cutting wasteful or low-priority spending is part of getting back to fiscal balance. But there is nothing low-priority about the firefighters who protect our communities, our families, and our homes.

I rise today to support the intent of the Connolly Amendment which seeks to restore $150 million in dedicated Federal funding to "Americas Subway" the Washington Metro which is otherwise eliminated under the Republican Continuing Resolution.
