Hoyer Hosts Roundtable Luncheon with Fifth District Mayors
BERWYN HEIGHTS, MD – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) hosted a roundtable luncheon with Fifth District mayors to discuss federal issues affecting our communities, including deficit reduction, job creation, and the need for Congress to pass a long-term reauthorization of the surface transportation bill.
"I was pleased Fifth District mayors could join me today so I could hear firsthand how the challenges of deficit reduction and economic growth are being felt at the local level," said Congressman Hoyer. "While Congress must bring down our deficit, we cannot jeopardize critical funding that helps sustain our
communities. I'm committed to a comprehensive plan that reduces the deficit through a balanced mix of spending cuts and revenues, but also continues to
make investments in our local communities."
"I also appreciated input from our mayors on Democrats' Make It In America jobs plan, an effort I have led to help attract business development and put more Americans back to work," Hoyer continued. "One of the most important ways we can reduce the deficit and create certainty for our economy is to
create jobs. That's why I continue to urge Congress to take action on the Make It In America plan and a long-term reauthorization of a surface transportation bill so that more businesses and families can Make It In America and right here in Maryland."
Introduced during the Democratic-led 111th Congress, the Make It In America plan aims to create jobs by cultivating an encouraging environment for businesses to innovate and make products here in the U.S. Investments in infrastructure are a critical part of the Make It In America plan, and Democrats are focused on passing a bipartisan surface transportation bill so that we can protect thousands of jobs and make the repairs needed to ensure safety and provide economic benefits to our communities.
