President Obama delivered a compelling vision of how we can work together to address Americas challenges. While our economy is on the road back to health, we know we still have a long way to goand tonight, the president discussed a strategy for getting us there.

Today, the White House released an important report on our shared responsibility to those who serve our country in uniform: Strengthening Our Military Families.

Before the Affordable Care Act was signed into law, roughly 63,200 Medicare beneficiaries in Maryland fell into the donut hole and received no extra help to defray the cost of their prescription drugs. Now, the health care law is working to help seniors who once were forced to choose whether to buy prescriptions or put food on the table.

Health reform is already helping provide access to quality, affordable health care for many Maryland families, seniors, and small businesses.

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) joined Dr. Nancy S. Grasmick, State Superintendent of Schools, Dr. William R. Hite, Jr., Superintendent of Prince Georges County Public Schools, Amber Waller, Member of the Prince Georges County Board of Education, and others, for a tour of the facilities at the Prince Georges County Judy Center.

This week, we pause the work of this House to mourn the lost lives of six of our fellow citizensone born on that day of tragedy and carnage when thousands were slain in an equally indiscriminate, heinous act of hatecitizens shot dead on Saturday in Tucson, Arizona in pursuit of their right to peaceably assemble.
