oday, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) was joined by Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13), House Majority Whip James Clyburn (SC-06), Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03), Congresswoman Karen Bass (CA-37), Congressman G.K. Butterfield (NC-01), Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (MS-02), Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02), Congressman John Sarbanes (MD-03), Congressman Anthony Brown (MD-04), Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08), Congressman David Trone (MD-06), and Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07) in sending a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to call for Senate action on H.R. 3005, legislation to remove the bust of Chief Justice Roger Brooke Taney from the U.S. Capitol building and replace it with a bust of Associate Justice Thurgood Marshall.

Yesterday, the House passed the Fiscal Year 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), to ensure the security of our nation and support our men and women in uniform. I was pleased to bring this legislation to the Floor and see it pass overwhelmingly – just as it has done for 60 consecutive years. I worked alongside my colleagues to secure important benefits for Fifth District service members, including a 2.7 percent pay increase, expanded parental leave, and improved mental health care services, all of which are essential resources that our men and women in uniform rely on.

Hoyer (MD-05) visited the Patuxent Brewing Company, a Black-owned, small craft brewery business in Waldorf, MD, during National Small Business Week, which is celebrated between September 13 and September 15, 2021. Congressman Hoyer toured the brewery alongside Co-Owner Davie Feaster and Regional Director of Small Business Development Center at College of Southern Maryland Wynne Briscoe.
