WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today marking one year since Russia's illegal, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine:
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer, Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02), John Sarbanes (MD-03), Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Jamie Raskin (MD-08), David Trone (MD-06) announced $2 million in federal funding for Baltimore City to plan for the redevelopment of the Highway to Nowhere in West Baltimore, a highway project that destroyed homes and businesses and displaced 1,500 residents at the time of its construction more than 50 years ago. The structure has divided and damaged those communities ever since.
Project: Anne Arundel County
- Description: The funding would be used for the juvenile pre-arrest diversion Fresh START Program is designed to decriminalize behaviors while holding youth accountable, reducing racial and ethnic disparities in charging, and providing early intervention and services to youth impacted by trauma, mental health, and/or substance abuse needs.
- Amount: $400,000
The House Committee on Appropriations announced that Members of Congress were allowed to submit up to 10 community funding requests. Congressman Hoyer received many requests, some of which were not eligible under the criteria established by Committee.
