I'm so pleased to be here with all of you to celebrate the extraordinary career and accomplishments of a man I am proud to call a good friend, Brit Kirwan.

I am honored to represent so many professional and volunteer firefighters, first responders, and their families in Maryland's Fifth Congressional District, where there is a very long tradition of our communities standing together to support those who serve us with such distinction and bravery.

The [Oversight and Government Reform Committee] Ranking Member [Elijah Cummings] said this was a bill to solve a nonexistent problem. Everybody ought to pay their taxes. Everybody. Everybody ought to pay their taxes.

I was pleased to meet with these advocates today who have played a key role in developing a strong network of support services for those with disabilities across Maryland.

I was pleased to visit Prince George's County's Public Safety Communications today and hear about the role they play in the county's crime prevention and emergency response.

I was honored to visit with Chairman Franklin and the Prince George's County Council today, along with County Executive Baker.

I was pleased to have student leaders from across Maryland join me today for a roundtable discussion about issues affecting them and their peers.

I thank the Gentlelady for yielding. I join her in thanking Mr. [John] Carter and Mr. [Hal] Rogers for bringing to the Floor in December a Homeland Security bill that was appropriate, that funded at the levels that were agreed upon by both parties.
