Hoyer Statement on Funding for the University System of Maryland Academic and Research Center

January 21, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after the inclusion of $3,061,000 in Maryland's Fiscal Year 2017 Budget for planning and design for the University of Maryland Academic and Research Center at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center:

"I'm pleased that the Governor included funding for the University System of Maryland Academic and Research Center, known as the ‘third building,' in the Fiscal Year 2017 budget unveiled yesterday. The third building is a partnership between the University System of Maryland, the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, and the Southern Maryland Navy Alliance. A third building at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center is important to economic growth in Southern Maryland and across the state. This project has the potential to establish a highly skilled workforce to meet the needs of the Patuxent River Naval Air Station; the Naval Service Warfare Center, Indian Head; and the University of Maryland Unmanned Aircraft Systems Test Site.  I look forward to working with the Governor and our legislative leaders to ensure this project is on track to be completed."
