Hoyer Hosts Affordable Care Act Roundtable with the Executive Director of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange

January 21, 2016

LARGO, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) hosted an Affordable Care Act roundtable today at a recently opened enrollment center that serves Prince George's County. The roundtable focused on the current open enrollment period, availability of financial assistance, and outreach efforts to encourage Prince George's County residents to sign up for affordable health coverage in 2016 before the January 31st deadline. The center is one of several connector entities that provide free, in-person assistance to Maryland residents seeking health coverage through the state's insurance marketplace. Rep. Hoyer was joined by Carolyn Quattrocki, executive director of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange, which oversees Maryland's health insurance marketplace.

"I was pleased to visit this new enrollment center in Prince George's County this afternoon to have a discussion with navigators, community health care workers and volunteers about their enrollment process and outreach efforts to those who have not yet enrolled," said Congressman Steny Hoyer. "It is important that we work together to get the word out about the importance of signing up for health insurance and also what to do once you have coverage. I encourage Marylanders who need a health plan or want to explore options for affordable coverage to visit an enrollment center in their area today to learn more and to sign up."

"We are delighted to have so much support in furthering our mission of providing health coverage for Marylanders," said Carolyn A. Quattrocki, executive director of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange. "This year, there are more than 1,500 experts located around the state to provide information and help Marylanders enroll. And most people are eligible for financial help. In fact, in 2016, nine out of 10 people who enrolled through Maryland Health Connection were able to receive financial help to pay for health coverage."

The final deadline to apply for health coverage in 2016 or to change a current health plan is January 31. Individuals can visit www.MarylandHealthConnection.gov to find information on open enrollment help and financial assistance.
