When Congress passed the American Rescue Plan in March, included was a significant expansion of the Child Tax Credit. Today, the first round of monthly Child Tax Credit payments will be dispersed to Maryland families, sending assistance directly into the pockets of Marylanders who need it most. I was glad to work alongside my colleagues and the Biden-Harris Administration to ensure the expanded Child Tax Credit was included in the American Rescue Plan.

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Anthony Brown, Jamie Raskin, and David Trone today announced $53,968,575 from the American Rescue Plan to strengthen special education services for children across the state.

Hoyer (MD-05), Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Anthony Brown, Jamie Raskin, and David Trone announced $2,185,056 in federal funding to reimburse the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) for costs incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wanted to make sure you saw news coverage of last night’s House passage of H.R. 3005, legislation to remove hate from the Capitol. The legislation, sponsored by Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), would require the removal of the bust of Chief Justice Roger B. Taney, who penned the majority opinion in the infamous Dred Scott v. Sanford decision, and replace it with one of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.

Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) announced the names of 12 Fifth District students appointed to the United States Service Academies. The students, nominated by Congressman Hoyer, have accepted offers to the Air Force Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy, the Naval Academy, and the Military Academy at West Point. All of the service academies require a nomination from an authorized nominating source.
