Hoyer (MD-05) met today with Superintendent of Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) Dr. Maria Navarro to discuss CCPS’ priorities and learn more about how the district has adjusted to manage student and teacher safety throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Navarro began her term as Charles County Public Schools Superintendent on July 1, 2021.

This weekend I went on my sixteenth Civil Rights pilgrimage to Alabama, hosted by the Faith and Politics Institute. For years, this pilgrimage was led by my dear brother and friend, John Lewis, where he would encourage us to embrace our history by learning from its complicated past, while finding commonality in our fellowship and our desire to pursue justice and equality for all Americans.

Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02), John Sarbanes (MD-03), Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Anthony G. Brown (MD-04), Jamie Raskin (MD-08), and David Trone (MD-06) announced $38,274,762 in federal funds to reimburse state and local governments across Maryland for their COVID-19 response efforts. Funding comes from the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as authorized through Section 403 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
