Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) joined Maryland Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) for a small business workshop aimed at providing existing small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs with key resources and knowledge to help start or expand a business. The format of the Maryland SBDCs workshop was interactive and allowed participants the opportunity to work with professionals on business plans to ensure that they have a framework that will better prepare them to succeed.

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) supported House passage of the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act (H.R. 1586), legislation that would save and create almost 320,000 jobs including those of teachers, police officers, firefighters, and nurses.

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) announced that, the third round of "donut hole" checks have gone out to more than 375,000 seniors. Under the Affordable Care Act, seniors whose prescription drug costs are so high that they fall in the Medicare prescription drug donut hole coverage gap in 2010 are receiving this one-time tax-free $250 rebate check. Experts estimate that more than a quarter of seniors will hit the donut hole this year.

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) today visited Maryland manufacturers as part of his "Make it in America" tour to discuss the Democrats recently launched Make it in America agenda. Hoyer visited with the owners and employees and toured the facilities of three manufacturers located in Beltsville, MD: Capital Plastics Company, Techno Sciences, and Stromberg Sheet Metal Works.

Sammis, Acting Insurance Commissioner, Maryland Insurance Administration; and Terry Gardiner, National Policy Director, Small Business Majority.

Hoyer (MD-5) announced that the Fiscal Year 2011 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill approved tonight by the House contains significant investments to upgrade major transportation routes and transit projects while addressing community development needs in Marylands Fifth Congressional District. The funds were included at the request of Congressman Hoyer.
