With less than a week until sequestration is set to take effect, we are calling on the House to take immediate action to prevent the irrational spending cuts it will impose, which could severely damage our economy and national security.

From the 200 teacher and aide jobs at risk to the 46,000 civilian Department of Defense employees who face furloughs, thousands of Marylanders will experience the painful impact of the extreme, arbitrary spending cuts imposed by the sequester.

From cleaning up and improving the Chesapeake Bay and its local tributaries to restoring our oyster population, we must work together to protect and invest in Marylands natural resources.

Our families and businesses here in Maryland cannot afford inaction.

Republicans would have us return to our districts with nothing to show our constituents, notwithstanding the fact we have been here for six weeks this year, who are deeply concerned about how the sequester will make their lives more difficult and their communities less safe....
