Hoyer Statement on Meeting with Prince George's County Public Schools Chief Executive Officer Kevin Maxwell

February 24, 2014

UPPER MARLBORO, MDCongressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after meeting with Dr. Kevin Maxwell,  Prince George's County Public Schools Chief Executive Officer.

"Today, I met with Dr. Maxwell to discuss his priorities and vision for the Prince George's County School System. As the Maryland Superintendent of the Year and one of four finalists for the National Superintendent of the Year for his work in Anne Arundel County, Dr. Maxwell has demonstrated exemplary leadership and commitment to improving Maryland schools and taking steps to close the achievement gap among students. I'm pleased that he has identified early childhood education as a top priority, which is critical to improving educational outcomes for all students, and that he is working to ensure students are career ready by expanding career academies to all high schools in the County. He is also taking positive steps to attract students back to the public school system by improving community outreach, adding STEM programs, and expanding language immersion and arts programs. I thank Dr. Maxwell for joining me today and look forward to working together to address these priorities and ensure all students in Prince George's County have the opportunity to succeed."
