Hoyer Statement on Maryland House of Delegates Voting to Increase Minimum Wage

March 7, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after the Maryland House of Delegates voted to increase Maryland's minimum wage to $10.10:

"I commend the Maryland House of Delegates for voting today to increase the minimum wage to $10.10. No one who works full time should have to live in poverty, and I'm proud that Maryland lawmakers are once again leading the nation in taking steps to help more workers access greater economic opportunity. Increasing the minimum wage here in Maryland will not only lift families out of poverty and help them secure a place in the middle class, but it will strengthen our economy and lead to greater prosperity for our state. I thank Speaker Michael Busch and House Economic Matters Chairman Dereck Davis for their leadership, and urge the Maryland Senate to join the House in raising the minimum wage for Maryland's workers."
