I was honored to join the Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO at their Annual COPE Dinner, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help lead the fight in Congress for jobs that pay well and create opportunities for Americas middle class.

The bill considered today did not address the broad impact that sequestration could have on Marylanders.

We have an obligation to stand up for the brave men and women who have fought so hard for our nation and ensure they have the care and resources they need to transition to civilian life.

Since coming into effect on March 1, Americans are seeing why sequestration is not a policy we should follow or continue.

Im pleased these outstanding students and their instructors visited the Capitol today. I enjoyed meeting with them and thanked them for their hard work in the JROTC program, which provides important leadership training and aerospace science education that will prepare them for the military and jobs of tomorrow.

This Earth Day, I join all Marylanders in reflecting on the progress we have made to improve the health of our land, air, and water and recommitting ourselves to the work that remains to be done to preserve our natural resources.

Treasures like the Chesapeake Bay and the Baltimore Harbor are not just the pride of Maryland, they are shared by us all.
