Hoyer Applauds Expansion of Prince George's County Public Schools and Discovery Education Partnership to Provide Educators with Professional Development

June 16, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today on the expansion of Prince George's County Public Schools' (PGCPS) partnership with Discovery Education. Today, more than 100 experts from Discovery Education are conducting professional development sessions with all of PGCPS's 9,000 educators:

"Under the leadership of CEO Kevin Maxwell, Prince George's County Public Schools have taken important steps to improve classroom instruction and student learning. The expansion of the partnership between PGCPS and Discovery Education will further enhance those efforts, especially when it comes to utilizing digital resources and content, which is critically important to integrating Maryland's College and Career-Ready Standards in the classroom. I am also pleased that, through this partnership, PGCPS students will have access to high-quality science digital textbooks in the upcoming school year.

"Thanks to Maryland educators, our public school system is among the best in the nation, but we must continue to support our teachers and ensure they are equipped with the skills and resources needed to continue to engage students and prepare them for higher education and well-paying jobs.  I applaud CEO Maxwell and Discovery Education for their commitment to our schools and for partnering together on these important investments."
