I was pleased to attend the briefing today with Three Oaks Center and other service providers who are making a significant difference for the veterans population in Southern Maryland.

Today, I was proud to witness Congress install a permanent tribute to a great American and great son of Maryland, Frederick Douglass.

Today, I met with outstanding Maryland students participating in the NRECAs annual Youth Tour. Im pleased they had the opportunity to visit the U.S. Capitol, as well as other sites and museums in D.C. this week, and learn more about the political process.

I congratulate the University of Maryland Center on Aging on this important funding, which will support 540 AmeriCorps members.

Mr. Speaker, as we proceed with the fifteenth week of the Republican policy of sequester, this House continues to avoid taking the steps it ought to be taking to replace the entire sequester with a balanced alternative. Instead, House Republicans have fully embraced the sequester's draconian cuts, which slash funding from our highest and lowest priorities equally and put our economic recovery and national security at risk.

I want to thank the Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce for the opportunity to discuss what Congress is doing to address our fiscal and economic challenges and to help businesses grow right here in Maryland.

I was pleased to meet with the Fifth District Make It In America Advisory Committee today to continue discussing the jobs plan I am leading in Congress and hear their ideas on steps we can take in Prince Georges County and Southern Maryland to help our businesses grow and add jobs.
