Hoyer Statement on President Obama Executive Order Raising Minimum Wage for Federal Contract Workers

Today, President Obama took an important step toward making sure that every American who works hard can earn a living wage. By signing an executive order to raise the minimum wage for federal contract workers, he is fulfilling his promise in last month's State of the Union address to take action within his authority in areas where Congress has failed to do so.

Today, as the 113th Congress begins its second session, I'm hopeful that Congress can focus on issues important to the Fifth District, including helping working families achieve a secure place in the middle class and supporting the creation of well-paying jobs. That's why I continue to urge my colleagues to take up additional Make It In America bills, many of which enjoy bipartisan support, and to raise the minimum wage.
