Hoyer Delivers Remarks at 27th Annual National Fire & Emergency Services Dinner

WASHINGTON, DC –Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5), co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, delivered brief remarks at the 27th Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner yesterday evening. The dinner, hosted by the Congressional Fire Services Institute, paid tribute to the dedication and commitment of the nation's one million firefighters and emergency services personnel.Vice President Joe Biden served as the keynote speaker.

"The National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner is one of my favorite events of the year," said Congressman Steny Hoyer. "As a co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, I have been proud to work alongside our firefighters and emergency services personal to ensure more FIRE and SAFER Grants, secure benefits for families of the fallen, and advocate for safety standards that protect the lives of firefighters and first responders. I am honored to represent so many professional and volunteer firefighters, first responders, and their families in Maryland's Fifth Congressional District, where there is a very long tradition of our communities standing together to support those who serve us with such distinction and bravery. I look forward to continuing to stand together with these brave men and women as we work to advance the goals of the Congressional Fire Caucus and the Congressional Fire Services Institute in 2015 and for many years to come."

In his remarks, Congressman Hoyer recognized the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), who received the Senator Paul S. Sarbanes Fire Service Safety Leadership Award for their outstanding contributions to firefighter health and safety. Congressman Hoyer was proud to write a letter of support of the IAFF's nomination for the incredible work the organization and its president, Harold Schaitberger, does to promote workplace safety and training to reduce common hazards.
