I commend the Maryland House of Delegates for voting today to increase the minimum wage to $10.10.

Today, I met with Dr. Maxwell to discuss his priorities and vision for the Prince George's County School System.

I'm proud President Obama chose to visit Prince George's County once again to discuss the priorities he laid out in his State of the Union address. Today, he reflected on the progress we have made in improving fuel efficiency of American vehicles and outlined additional actions the Administration will take to improve the fuel economy of medium and heavy-duty trucks in the U.S.

I was pleased to join members of our community today to discuss the progress we are making in Southern Maryland to diversify our economy, promote innovation, and secure the high-skill, high-wage jobs we need for a strong future.

Today, President Obama took an important step toward making sure that every American who works hard can earn a living wage. By signing an executive order to raise the minimum wage for federal contract workers, he is fulfilling his promise in last month's State of the Union address to take action within his authority in areas where Congress has failed to do so.

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) encourages high school students who reside in Maryland's Fifth Congressional District – which includes Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's Counties, and parts of Prince George's and Anne Arundel Counties – to participate in the 33rd Annual Congressional Art Competition for a chance to have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) announced the launch of the first annual Congressional science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) academic competition, the House Student App Challenge, for high school students in Maryland's Fifth Congressional District.
