Last month, I stood with many of you at the west front of the U.S. Capitol Building as American flags began their journey here in memory of our fallen heroes. And as they wave in the wind over the homes of family members, they will represent the sorrow and the gratitude of our entire nation

I was proud to join in paying tribute to those who have served our nation in uniform. We owe our freedom, our security, and all the opportunities we enjoy to the men and women who risked life and limb on our behalf.

Today the Department of Defense objected to the proposed Great Bay Wind project on the grounds that it poses a significant threat to the mission and world-class stealth radar system at Patuxent River Naval Air Station.

I am pleased to join in welcoming Dr. Jordan as president of St. Mary's College of Maryland. In Dr. Jordan, we have found a president who believes strongly in the value of a liberal arts education and its power to disrupt in a way that creates new possibilities.

It is fitting that the theme for this year's gala is "All in for justice and equality. That's exactly what the Prince George's County NAACP has been fighting for.

I want to thank the Prince George's County Department of Family Services for collaborating with my office to host this important roundtable on domestic violence, and the representatives from each organization that attended.

I was honored to celebrate with the Prince George's Community College Foundation as they recognized Senator Mikulski and others who have worked to ensure that our students have access to a quality and affordable higher education.
