The full House Appropriations Committee included a Federal Employee Pay Parity amendment in the FY 2006 Transportation, Treasury, and Housing and Urban Development bill today. The amendment was offered by Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD), and was cosponsored by a bipartisan group of lawmakers, including Reps. Frank Wolf (R-VA), Jim Moran (D-VA), and Tom Davis (R-VA). The amendment provides for a 3.1% pay adjustment for federal civilian employees, including blue collar employees, giving them pay parity with military employees.________________________________________________________________________

Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) congratulated Veronica Loveless today as the winner of the 5th Congressional District High School Congressional Arts Competition. Loveless visited the Capitol today to meet with Congressman Hoyer and she participated in events on Capitol Hill to recognize the talented young artists who won similar competitions in other Congressional districts. Veronica Loveless, 16, just completed her junior year at Grace Brethren Christian School.________________________________________________________________________

Congressman Steny Hoyer gave the Commencement Address last night at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) where he congratulated the graduates and their families and spoke of the importance of lifelong learning in an age of rapid technological advancement, economic change and globalization. This morning, Rep. Hoyer also attended the U.S. Naval Academy Graduation ceremony in Annapolis. Congressman Steny Hoyer today announced that the House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2006 Energy and Water Appropriations bill last night which included, at the request of Congressman Hoyer, $400,000 to help clean up the Anacostia River, $240,000 more than was included in Fiscal Year 2005.________________________________________________________________________
