Congressman Steny H. Hoyer was honored by The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the nations authority on fire, electrical, and building safety. Hoyer was named as this years recipient of their Excellence in Fire Safety Award in recognition of a career of service dedicated to the advancement of fire safety. This is the first time the NFPA has made this award and Congressman Hoyer is the first recipient.________________________________________________________________________

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers in sending a letter to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the House Appropriations Committee and Subcommittee on Science, State, Justice, and Commerce urging the Committees to restore full funding to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program. This year, the Presidents budget proposal drastically cut the programs budget from fiscal year 2005s enacted level of nearly $300 million to $100 million, effectively terminating the current HIDTA program.________________________________________________________________________
