Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced today that the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Transportation Reauthorization Conference Report, agreed to by both the House and the Senate, which includes major funds to improve the District of Columbia Metropolitan Areas transportation infrastructure. The bill authorizes federal funding for transportation projects over the next six years.________________________________________________________________________

The Transportation Reauthorization Conference Report authorizes federal funding for transportation projects over the next six years.________________________________________________________________________

Major funding for several projects important to Marylands environment and economy is contained in the fiscal year 2006 Interior Appropriations Conference Report, agreed to in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, that was passed by the House of Representatives today. The funding will help to preserve Southern Marylands historic tobacco barns, it will benefit the Alice Ferguson Foundation in Prince Georges County, and will provide critical funds to clean up the Chesapeake Bay and the Anacostia River. The funds were all included in the bill at the request of Congressman Steny Hoyer.________________________________________________________________________

As Secretary of Health & Human Services Mike Leavitt toured Baltimore today to promote the Medicare prescription drug benefit, U.S. Reps. Steny Hoyer (D, MD-5) and Ben Cardin (D, MD-3) both expressed serious concerns about the Medicare law that takes effect in January 2006, providing seniors with a limited prescription drug benefit.________________________________________________________________________

Hoyer (D-MD) was awarded the George Bush Medal for the Empowerment of People with Disabilities last night at the National Council on Disabilitys 15th Anniversary Observance of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Former President George H.W. Bush presented him with the award. As the lead sponsor of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 in the House of Representatives, Congressman Hoyer shepherded the ADA to overwhelming approval. Over the past 15 years, Hoyer has fought to ensure that the promise of the ADA is fulfilled for all people with disabilities.________________________________________________________________________
