Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) joined Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Ben Cardin (D-MD), and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02), John Sarbanes (MD-03), Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Anthony G. Brown (MD-04), and Andy Harris (MD-01) on Tuesday to meet with White House Senior Advisor and Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu to discuss how the Bipartisan Infrastructure law, passed by Congress, can advance Maryland priorities and projects. In coordination with the Biden-Harris Administration, the lawmakers already have delivered hundreds of millions of dollars to Maryland for bridges, transit, water infrastructure, broadband, and more.

I am thrilled to host the 41st Annual U.S. Military Academies Forum and ROTC Showcase this upcoming Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. I hope you will join me in the Auditorium at St. Charles High School to learn more about the U.S. Military Service Academies including the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. In addition, representatives from College ROTC programs including the University of Maryland will be in attendance.

Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) toured the construction site and received a briefing about the building process for the Health Sciences Center at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM). During the briefing, Congressman Hoyer discussed how the $550,000 in critical funding he secured in FY2022 omnibus is being used to upgrade equipment in the new facility's health education program.

Today marks one week before the tax filing deadline on Monday, April 18, 2022. I am well aware of the delays that the IRS has experienced over the last several months, and that is why I sat down with IRS commissioner Charles Rettig earlier this month to urge that these problems be addressed for families still waiting on their tax refunds. I will continue calling for a fix to the systemic issues at the IRS that have burdened our families.

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) joined Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Ben Cardin (D-MD), and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02), John Sarbanes (MD-03), Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Anthony G. Brown (MD-04), Jamie B. Raskin (MD-08), and David Trone (MD-06) announced $348,108,466 in federal funding for Maryland in fiscal year 2022 to strengthen public transit infrastructure across the state. The lawmakers helped secure this increased federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) – which can be used to modernize aging infrastructure, upgrade vehicles, expand accessibility of transit stations, improve safety, address equity in transportation, and more – through the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

Yesterday, I was proud to bring to the House Floor and secure passage of the Relief for Restaurants and other Hard Hit Small Businesses Act of 2022 and I urge the Senate to act swiftly to send this legislation to President Biden’s desk.
