Hoyer (MD-05) joined Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02), John Sarbanes (MD-03), Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Jamie Raskin (MD-08), David Trone (MD-06), and Glenn Ivey (MD-04) today announced $42,882,024 in Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funding, through the Safe Streets for All grant program, for Maryland localities to upgrade outdated roadway infrastructure and improve safety. Hoyer (MD-05), Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Rules Committee Chair Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) announced that the bust of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger Taney that was on display in the Old Supreme Court Chamber, has been removed permanently. The action comes weeks after enactment of their legislation, S. 5229, that ordered the removal. A bust of Thurgood Marshall, the first African American to serve on the high court, will be added at an appropriate place in the Capitol at a later time.

Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) announced that the 42nd Annual Black History Month Breakfast will take place on Saturday, February 25, at 8:30 a.m. at Martin’s Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Maryland. This year’s celebration will feature keynote speaker Governor Wes Moore, the 63rd Governor of Maryland and first Black Governor in the state’s history. The theme of this year’s Black History Month Celebration is “Black Resistance in the Past, Present, and Future.”
