Hoyer Statement on the Confirmation of Jack Lew as U.S. Ambassador to Israel

WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) issued the following statement today after the Senate voted to confirm Jack Lew as the United States Ambassador to Israel:

“Now more than ever, we need an experienced, capable ambassador in Israel. I'm pleased that Jack Lew will fulfill that crucial role. We find ourselves amid perhaps the most pivotal moment for our U.S.-Israel relationship since Truman recognized the modern state of Israel just minutes after its founding seventy-five years ago. Israelis await our aid. Hostages – both Israeli and American – held in dark tunnels beneath Gaza await rescue. Hamas and their backers in Iran await our next move. 

“I have known Jack for decades and witnessed his expertise, character, and vision firsthand. He is well-equipped to navigate the region's complex diplomatic landscape and to ensure that we do everything possible to support Israel during this difficult hour. I look forward to working with him however I can to bring safety, security, and peace to Israel and the surrounding region.”
