WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Steny Hoyer today met with leading advocates of full-service community schools to discuss his introduction of the "Full-Service Community Schools Act." This bill, which will be introduced later this week, authorizes funding for full-service community schools, which are public elementary or secondary schools that coordinate multiple federal, state and local educational and social service programs in partnerships with school districts, community-based organizations and public/private partnerships. Congressman Hoyer helped establish "Judy Centers" across Maryland, which are full-service schools.________________________________________________________________________

CLINTON - Congressman Steny Hoyer hosted a Prescription Drug Town Hall Meeting at the Bradford Oaks Nursing Center today in Clinton to discuss the new and very complicated federal prescription drug law. The plan became law late last year and polls show that seniors are still very confused about its provisions. ST. MARYS COUNTY - Congressman Steny Hoyer today joined the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the State of Maryland to begin seeding 10 million oysters in a newly established oyster sanctuary. This restoration effort is one of several projects that address natural resource injuries from the April 2000 oil spill into the Patuxent River in southern Maryland. CALVERT COUNTY - Congressman Steny Hoyer joined former State Senator Bernie Fowler in his 17th Annual "Wade In" today. The Wade In was started by Mr. Fowler as an unscientific but telling manner of gauging the water quality of the Patuxent River.
