I join in congratulating Dr. Karen Salmon as the next Maryland Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Salmon has shown a commitment to the students of Maryland while spending the majority of her career in public education in our state.

I appreciate the opportunity to share my input with the Subcommittee regarding the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and the need for robust investment and high safety standards.

I have been a strong supporter of bipartisan defense authorization bills passed by Congress for more than three decades, but last night I voted against a partisan defense authorization bill that is simply bad for our nation's defense.

I applaud today's vote in the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to authorize federal funds for a new, fully consolidated FBI headquarters.

I appreciate today's briefing from Mr. Wiedefeld on Metro's new year-long safety overhaul and for working with our regional delegation to examine ways to help our constituents navigate this unprecedented project.
