I was glad to see so many people in La Plata today for this important dialogue about community diversity.

I was saddened to learn of the tragic deaths of Dr. Warren Weinstein and Giovanni Lo Porto while they were being held as hostages by al Qaeda.

I am proud that J.C. Parks Elementary School has been recognized as a leading example in their dedication and commitment to environmental education, and I commend their efforts to make our state a cleaner and healthier place for all Marylanders.

Mr. Speaker, I rise in support of this resolution which I have sponsored to permit the Greater Washington Soap Box Derby to hold its annual competition on the grounds of the United States Capitol.

I'm pleased that the Calvert County Housing Authority will receive this funding to support the housing needs of homeless veterans in Southern Maryland.
