Republican efforts to sabotage health insurance markets are already having real-world consequences for hardworking families in Maryland.

I will never forget the day, twenty years ago, that our nation’s Capitol Building was attacked by a lone gunman, who was stopped only by the courage and sacrifice of the officers of the U.S. Capitol Police.

In November 2016, Maryland filed a petition concerning air pollution emitted by 36 electric generating units located in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Senator Ben Cardin, a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Chris Van Hollen, and Reps. Elijah E. Cummings, C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, John P. Sarbanes, Andy Harris, M.D., John K. Delaney, Anthony G. Brown,and Jamie B. Raskin urged Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to respond favorably to Maryland’s request for technical assistance to review and protect the state’s electoral systems.

I want to thank Rep. Raskin for his steadfast commitment to safeguarding our nation’s election systems and for introducing this legislation.

I was encouraged to learn that a contract has been awarded for the new Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Charlotte Hall.
