Yesterday I brought to the House Floor bipartisan legislation to provide additional relief to small businesses and their employees as we continue to confront the coronavirus pandemic.

As you know, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act [P.L. 116–136] included $200 million for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to assist nursing homes with infection control and support states’ efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in nursing homes.

Providing a high-quality education to all Maryland students is one of the most pressing long-term challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Maryland, we must apply a comprehensive approach to fight the virus.

I’m pleased that the University of Maryland, College Park will receive this critically important funding to further study COVID-19.

The COVID-19 public health emergency has presented far-reaching and complex challenges for many Marylanders across the state, especially for individuals who have lost jobs as a result of the pandemic and those living in underserved communities that lack adequate legal services.

During these unprecedented times, we must ensure those who sacrificed so much for our nation are being provided for.

The passage of the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act will provide needed help to small businesses in the Fifth District that are struggling to survive during this pandemic, and to their employees who are having trouble making ends meet.
