Brown (MD-04) applauded President Biden’s signing of legislation to open two veterans’ outpatient clinics in Baltimore and Prince George’s County. The bipartisan Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act (PACT Act) provides healthcare benefits for all generations of toxic-exposed veterans for the first time in the nation’s history and will improve access to care for all those who served in our nation’s armed forces.

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Ben Cardin (D-MD), and Kweisi Mfume (MD-07) today announced $629,718 in federal funding through the Department of Education’s highly competitive Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement (MSP) program for the University of Maryland (UMD) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). This investment will help low-income, first-generation, and disadvantaged students prepare for doctoral and graduate studies through research and other academic activities.

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Ben Cardin (D-MD), and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02), John Sarbanes (MD-03), Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Anthony G. Brown (MD-04), Jamie B. Raskin (MD-08), and David Trone (MD-06) announced $6,938,832 in federal funding to promote public health initiatives, and support infectious disease and medical research efforts in Maryland. This Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funding will be directed to the Maryland Department of Health.

This afternoon, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) and Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh hosted a roundtable and tour at the John J. Flynn BAC/IMI International Training Center at the International Masonry Training and Education Foundation (IMTEF). The IMTEF provides critical support to workers through registered apprenticeship opportunities that provide economic mobility and good family-supporting jobs.

This morning, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) visited the Bowie City Public Works Water Facility for a briefing on the funding he secured in the FY2022 Omnibus legislation. Congressman Hoyer has been vocal about the challenges that the city faces with tuberculated water pipes, and recently secured $2 million for the facility to replace a mile of water piping.

Today, following House passage of the Southern Maryland National Heritage Area Act, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) attended a meeting with the National Heritage Area Steering Committee, who are charged with overseeing these protected lands. Congressman Hoyer brought legislation to the Floor last week to designate Southern Maryland as a National Heritage Area, and this meeting served to provide an update on the legislation and what it means for the Steering Committee moving forward.
