Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) today announced that several water resource programs and projects important to the environmental and economic health of Maryland and the 5th Congressional District were authorized in the House-passed version of the Water Resources Development Act of 2005. Each of the following programs were included in the bill at Congressman Hoyers request and will allow the Army Corps of Engineers to make progress on these projects or studies to improve Southern Marylands water quality and surrounding environment.________________________________________________________________________

The celebrations planned for Independence Day this year are both numerous and heartfelt, and justly so. While this is a day of fireworks, of barbecues and picnics, of friends and families, it is also much more. It is an opportunity to reflect on our nation, our history, our progress, and our future. Americans can wish a happy birthday to our country, to the principles on which it is founded, to the spirit of freedom that vitalizes it. On May 24, the House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2006 Energy and Water funding bill which included $1 million for the Oyster Recovery Project, which is coordinating the revival of oysters in the bay.________________________________________________________________________

Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) announced that the FY 2006 Transportation, Treasury, and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill, passed by the House of Representatives today, includes $127.6 million for the Food and Drug Administration to help complete a major construction project that will consolidate all FDA offices and labs into one state-of-the-art campus in White Oak, Maryland. The entire FDA consolidation project is expected to be completed in 2010 and will eventually provide office and research space for over 7,700 employees.________________________________________________________________________
