Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) spoke on the Floor of the House of Representatives this afternoon in support of his resolution to allow the Greater Washington Soap Box Derby to take place on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol.

I am extremely disappointed by the Veterans, Employees, and Taxpayers (VET) Protection Act, which was marked-up by the House Veterans Affairs Committee this morning.

I appreciated the opportunity to meet with mayors and representatives from Northern Prince George's County this afternoon to discuss the impact potential federal budget cuts will have on their communities.

I was pleased to honor outstanding educators in the Fifth District today.

I enjoyed meeting with students from the College of Southern Maryland's Talons Robotics Team this afternoon.

I thank Sheriff Troy Berry and members of the Charles County Sheriff's Office for meeting with me today to discuss some of the issues facing Charles County and the Fifth District.

I was pleased to have the opportunity to attend a meet and greet with members of the Prince George's County Council this afternoon to provide an update on what's happening in Congress, and address some of the issues most pressing to the County.

I am deeply concerned by the proposed rate increases in the state of Maryland for 2018.
