Hoyer Statement on the Introduction of the Congressional Black Caucus' Jobs and Justice Act

May 10, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today on the introduction of the Congressional Black Caucus' Jobs and Justice Act:

"Since its founding, the Congressional Black Caucus has been the conscience of the Congress when it comes to ending economic disparities and making access to opportunity equal for all.  The Jobs and Justice Act its Members are introducing today is an answer to the disdain Donald Trump and his Administration have shown for African-American communities and others who have faced generations of discrimination and denial of equal opportunities.  It includes many Democratic priorities, including raising the minimum wage, investing billions in public education, helping create startup incubators, and engaging in criminal justice reforms to help those who have paid their debt return to society as contributors.

"I'm proud to stand with my colleagues who worked on this bill and are introducing it today.  Democrats are focused on enacting these policies and others that will make opportunities more broadly available.  We are offering Americans – all Americans – a better deal so that everybody has the ability to make it in America."
