Thanks to the work of Democrats in Congress, the American Rescue Plan included a significant expansion of the Child Tax Credit. Last week, the first round of these monthly, automatic Child Tax Credit Payments were sent to hundreds of thousands of Maryland families to help them cover day-to-day expenses and set their children up for success. In the Fifth District alone, the expanded Child Tax Credit will benefit 132,000 children, and over 5,000 children will be lifted out of poverty. For hardworking Maryland families who were hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic, these payments will serve as a financial lifeline as we work to build back better.
