Hoyer Welcomes Marylanders to the Capitol for Vote on H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act

WASHINGTON, DC - This afternoon, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) welcomed Maryland immigrants and advocates to the U.S. Capitol to watch debate and House passage of H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act. The legislation protects Dreamers and those with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforcement Departure (DED) status and provides them with a pathway to citizenship.

"As we celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month, I am proud to bring the American Dream and Promise Act to the House Floor today to protect Dreamers and those with Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Enforcement Departure and ensure they can remain in the communities they call home," said Congressman Hoyer. "I was pleased to welcome immigrants and advocates from Maryland to the Capitol today to watch this historic vote. For years, the Congress has failed to act to protect Dreamers, despite overwhelming support for doing so. With Democrats in the Majority, we are taking long overdue action to ensure that DREAMers, TPS holders, and DED holders can continue to contribute to our country and our economy. I look forward to passage this afternoon, and I urge the Senate to swiftly take up and pass this bill and the President to sign it into law."

Congressman Hoyer welcomed his 2018 State of the Union guest Gabriela Hernandez, a DREAMer from Prince George's County, and representatives from the Liberian Community Association to the Capitol today to watch debate and passage of the American Dream and Promise Act. Many Liberians with DED status call the Fifth District home. Earlier this year, Congressman Hoyer was successful in requesting an extension for Liberian DED holders to remain in the U.S.
