Hoyer Visits University of Maryland Baltimore County with President Hrabowski

BALTIMORE, MD –Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) today visited the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) with UMBC President Freeman Hrabowski, III, where they visited the university's Imaging Research Center, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and The Commons. During his visit, Congressman Hoyer also met with faculty members and students to discuss campus initiatives and programs, skills training, and career opportunities.

"I was pleased to join Dr. Hrabowski and his staff today to tour the university and discuss the important role UMBC plays in communities across the state and the steps they are taking to strengthen higher education in Maryland," stated Congressman Hoyer. "UMBC has become a leader in higher education, ensuring students have the skills to succeed and contribute to Maryland and our country in so many ways. I would like to thank Dr. Hrabowski for his years of commitment to students, staff, and faculty at UMBC and his extraordinary contributions to education."

"We were delighted to introduce him today to the entrepreneurial accomplishments of UMBC students, faculty, and staff working in areas ranging from political science and public policy to space science and the environment."

Nearly 14,000 graduate and undergraduate students are enrolled at UMBC. Undergraduates are offered 54 majors and 32 minors, as well as 23 certificate programs. UMBC's Graduate School offers 40 master's degree programs, 24 doctoral degree programs, and 23 graduate certificate programs. Dr. Hrabowski has served as president of UMBC since 1992.
