Hoyer Visits University of Maryland Baltimore County, Morgan State University

BALTIMORE, MD – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) visited University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and Morgan State University and met with leadership at each institution.  

"I'm pleased I could join Dr. Freeman Hrabowski and Dr. David Wilson today to discuss the important steps UMBC and Morgan State are taking to strengthen higher education in Maryland," stated Congressman Hoyer. "Maryland schools lead our nation's colleges and universities, especially when it comes to strengthening and promoting STEM education, which is critical to ensuring America's competitiveness. I have made investments in higher education a priority in the Make It In America jobs plan I'm leading in Congress, and look forward to working with Dr. Hrabowski and Dr. Wilson to build a competitive workforce and ensure our students can succeed in Maryland and around the country."

At UMBC, Congressman Hoyer and Dr. Hrabowski discussed a number of campus STEM initiatives, including the Meyeroff Scholars Program; the partnership between the Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) and UMBC to improve STEM student achievement and teacher retention; and the Sherman STEM Teacher Education Program.

At Morgan State University, Congressman Hoyer toured the Center for the Built Environment and Infrastructure Studies; the Earl S. Richardson Library; the Student Center; and the site of their new Business School. Following the tour, Congressman Hoyer and Dr. Wilson discussed the university's strategic goals which include enhancing student success; enhancing Morgan State's status as a doctoral research university; improving and sustaining infrastructure and operational processes; growing the Morgan State's resources; and engaging with the community.
