Hoyer Tours Catherine T. Reed Elementary School, Discusses American Jobs Act with Local Educators
LANHAM, MD – This morning, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) joined teachers and staff at Catherine T. Reed Elementary School, for a tour of their facilities and discussion on the American Jobs Act.
"I was pleased to meet today with local educators to discuss how the American Jobs Act would help spur needed capital improvements at Catherine T. Reed Elementary School and many other schools in Prince George's County and throughout the Fifth District," stated Hoyer. "Today we learned about the challenges facing this particular school and how they relate to the American Jobs Act. This bill would not only invest and grow our economy, but it would help ensure that we keep teachers on the job and provide resources to enable our schools' needed improvements, which in turn would put people to work in the areas of construction and development. Today's visit reaffirms why we need Republicans to bring a jobs bill to the House Floor as soon as possible."
According to the White House, Prince George's County Public Schools would be eligible for $50 million toward renovation and systemic repairs throughout their school system. County officials have identified several schools in Congressman Hoyer's district slated for needed upgrades, including open pod classroom conversion at Reed and several other elementary schools.
