Hoyer Statement on Reports of a Noose Found on the University of Maryland Campus

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement after it was reported that a noose was found in the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity house on the University of Maryland, College Park campus:

"I am appalled by reports that a hangman's noose was found on the University of Maryland, College Park campus last week. This outrageous act of hatred and prejudice, as well recent actions on the campus of American University, must not be tolerated, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice. No student should feel unwelcome or uncomfortable on campus. I will continue to monitor the situation, and offer my full support to the University as they investigate this deeply disturbing incident."
