Hoyer Statement on President Trump's Fiscal Year 2018 Budget Proposal
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after President Donald Trump released his budget proposal for fiscal year 2018:
"On a number of levels, President Trump's budget proposal is extremely alarming. The proposal would be devastating for Maryland's families. It attacks our federal workforce, slashes Medicaid benefits for low-income Americans, guts the National Institutes of Health, institutes deep cuts to our public schools, decimates the Environmental Protection Agency and eliminates investments in the Chesapeake Bay, reduces key funding for NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, and provides no additional funds for the consolidated FBI headquarters. Simply put, the Trump Administration's budget is bad for the Fifth District.
"Furthermore, the President's budget makes it abundantly clear that the Trump Administration thinks it can score political points by targeting federal employees. This proposal will hurt Americans in every district of this country who depend on federal public servants to protect their communities from terrorism and natural disasters, deliver health care to veterans, and research cures for diseases. I will strongly oppose this and any other attack on hardworking federal employees.
"I will continue to work to protect the needs of communities across the Fifth District, and urge my colleagues in Congress to reject the Trump Administration's budget."
