Hoyer Statement Following Visit to Joint Base Andrews to Meet with Military Families

April 22, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after visiting Joint Base Andrews to visit the Judy Hoyer Child Development Center on the base and meet with military families and Commander of the 11th Wing and Joint Base Andrews, Colonel Bill Knight, for a roundtable discussion:

"April marks the Month of the Military Child, and I was pleased to visit the Judy Hoyer Child Development Center at Joint Base Andrews to tour the facility and read to some of the curious, engaged, and eager children there. I also had the opportunity to visit with men and women in uniform and their spouses, discuss how I am working in Congress to support them, and answer their questions

"I'm proud to represent so many military personnel and their families at Joint Base Andrews, Pax River, Webster Field, Indian Head, and other installations in our state. Our nation owes them a gratitude that Congress must express through actions – not just through words. That's why I joined them today to hear firsthand about the challenges they face and how Congress can help.

"With budget cuts and the threat of sequester looming in Fiscal Year 2016, it is critical that Congress take action to ensure we are providing the tools and resources needed to support military families and ensure that our men and women abroad know that their loved ones are taken care of back home. I thank Colonel Knight, and the families who joined me today, and I look forward to continuing to serve as an advocate for them in Congress."
