Hoyer Recognizes Fifth District Educators at Annual Luncheon
PRINCE FREDERICK, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) hosted a luncheon today in Prince Frederick to honor 13 exceptional teachers and principals in the Fifth District. Honorees included recipients of the Washington Post's Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award, which recognizes excellence in teaching; the Washington Post's Distinguished Educational Leadership Award for principals who go beyond their day-to-day demands to create an exceptional educational environment; and County Teacher of the Year Award winners for Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, St. Mary's, and Prince George's Counties.
"I am proud of the extraordinary work our principals and teachers do every day to educate and inspire our Fifth District students," said Congressman Steny Hoyer. "We must do all that we can to recognize and support teachers and school administrators. These awards, though important honors, are not enough. When we invest in teachers and schools, we are making it possible for the next generation to compete for good jobs and access the opportunities that help workers and their families get ahead. I'm so proud of the work we have done in Maryland to make our state one of the best in the country when it comes to education. I will continue to work for robust investment in education at the state and federal levels and will fight any attempt to disinvest from students, teachers, and their communities."
