Hoyer Praises Maryland Public Schools for Earning Number One National Ranking

January 14, 2010

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) released the following statement today on Education Week Magazine's selection of Maryland Public Schools as number one in the nation for the second straight year:

"Today's announcement from Education Week reaffirms that when a community comes together to support a shared priority, we can achieve anything. Investing in education has long been a priority in our State, and for the second year in a row, the commitment and hard work of our educators, school administrators, children and their parents has shown proven success. Even during difficult economic times, Maryland has made strong investments in our public education system, while consistently working to strengthen education policies and improve student performance. All children deserve a quality education, and in the years ahead, we will continue to ensure that all Maryland students have access to the best public school system our nation has to offer."
