Hoyer Nominates Maryland's Dr. William "Brit" Kirwan to Serve on National Education Committee

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) announced that he has nominated Chancellor of the University of Maryland System Dr. William "Brit" Kirwan to serve on the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI), an advisory body to the Secretary of Education on the process of accreditation and the institutional eligibility and certification of institutions of higher education.

 

As House Majority Leader, Rep. Hoyer is tasked with making three appointments to the 18-member committee.  In addition to Dr. Kirwan, Hoyer also nominated Dr. Benjamin Allen, President of the University of Northern Iowa, and Dr. Carolyn Williams, President of Bronx Community College.

"The committee serves an important advisory role to the Secretary of Education on the accreditation of higher education institutions to ensure the highest standards of excellence are met by our nation's colleges and universities. I am confident that Dr. Kirwan's extensive academic leadership experience, as well as his service on the Council for Higher Education Accreditation Board of Directors will make him an important contributing member of this committee."
