Hoyer Named a 2013 Defender of Children By Bipartisan Children's Advocacy Group

December 12, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) was named a 2013 Defender of Children by the First Focus Campaign for Children in recognition of his support for policies that advance the well-being of children. Congressman Hoyer was among 100 Members of Congress who were recognized by the organization for their leadership on issues important to children this year.

"I'm honored to be recognized by the First Focus Campaign for Children for my work on behalf of children and families in Maryland and throughout the country," said Congressman Hoyer. "I agree with the great Marylander, Frederick Douglass, who once said: ‘it is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.' That's why it's critically important that we invest in the future of our children. From improving education to expanding access to health care, I'm committed to ensuring that our children have the resources needed to succeed. I thank First Focus for this honor and join in congratulating fellow honorees."

"Lots of politicians talk about kids' issues, but few back it up," said Bruce Lesley, president of the Campaign for Children. "Representative Hoyer delivered for kids."

The First Focus Campaign for Children works to ensure children and families are a priority in federal policy and budget decisions. For more information about the organization and for a full list of Members honored this year, click here.
